None of the health care reform legislation currently working its way through the Senate and House removes the 5-year bar that prevents legal immigrants from accessing the help they need through Medicaid. As the bills move through Congress we are running out of opportunities to have our voices heard. However, a champion has emerged!

Congressman Mike Honda has authored a letter calling for support to remove the 5-year bar and oppose any new barriers. This letter is supported by the leadership of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, Congressional Black Caucus, Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and the Congressional Progressive Caucus and many of our representatives have signed on to the letter. But more support is needed if we are to make health care reform work for everyone.

WE NEED YOU TO TAKE ACTION NOW. Call your Member of Congress and ask them to join their colleagues in calling for fair health care reform. Ask them to sign on to this letter. Ask them to support removing the 5-year bar and to oppose any new barriers imposed on legal immigrants.
