Advocacy Program Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Responsibilities:

(1) Help build collaborations with other Asian Pacific Islander (API) and Non-API organizations

(2) Make a stronger voice for the Asian community through advocacy and capacity building

(3) Help immigrant and refugee Asian community members become active participants in the democratic process

(4) Assist in the organization of the 4th annual TEA (Together Empowering Asians) Walk

Employment Program Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Responsibilities:

(1) Aid recently resettled refugees in securing employment

(2) Mentor refugee clients in adjustment to American workforce culture

(3) Train refugee clients on resume and interview skills

(4) Support and mentor employed clients to encourage sustainable career paths

Civics/Citizenship Class Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers needed to attend once a month civics class to help students practice citizenship exam questions in English. Students also need help practicing citizen interview skills during class. If interested please contact Grace Pyen at 770-936-0969.

Youth Program Volunteer Opportunitites

Volunteer Responsibilities:

(1) Improve youths academic achievement through Tutoring/Homework Assistance

(2) Reduce youth risk for alcohol, tobacco and other drug use through life skills training/activities

(3) Academic and personal enrichment through a positive learning environment, arts/crafts and other activities

Volunteer Qualifications: At least high-school graduate with no criminal record

1. Clarkston High School - After School Tutoring

Date(s) and Time: Mon & Wed / 3:15-5:30pm
Location: Clarkston High School, 618 North Indian Creek Drive, Clarkston, GA 30021

Youths Served: About 20 immigrant and refugee youths age 14-18 from Clarkston High School
3-5 volunteers needed for tutoring/homework assistance/each day

2. Indian Creek – After School Tutoring

Date(s) and Time: Mon / 2:45-4:00pm
Location: Indian Creek Elementary, 724 North Indian Creek Drive, Clarkston, GA 30021

Youths Served: Up to 20 Asian and other immigrant and refugee youths needing academic help and enrichment
3-5 volunteers needed for tutoring/homework assistance

3. Marietta - After School Tutoring

Date(s) and Time: Tue and Thu / 4:00-6:00pm
Location: CPACS Satellite Site, Immanuel Church, 950 Old Canton Rd. Marietta, GA 30068
Youths Served: Up to 20 Korean youths, 3-5th graders
3 volunteers needed for tutoring/homework assistance

4. Youth LEAD – After School Tutoring

Date(s) and Time: Mon and Wed / 2:30-4:00pm
Location: Holy Spirit Catholic Center, 120 Northwood Dr., NE, Suite B-8, Atlanta, GA 30342

Youths Served: Up to 20 youths – Hispanic Youths,1st-5th graders
3 volunteers needed for tutoring/homework assistance

5. Beaver Ridge Elementary School – After School Tutoring

Date(s) and Time: To be determined

6. Wood Gate – After School Tutoring

Youths Served: Up to 20 Asian and other youths needing academic help and enrichment
